Coming out of college, former Alabama star wide receiver Jerry Jeudy figured to be the next in a long line of Crimson Tide receivers to make a big impact in the NFL. When the Denver Broncos took him with the 15th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft , they figured the same thing. Jeudy was drafted to take the Broncos offense to the next level, and provide them with a formidable 1-2 punch with Courtland Sutton.

That reality never panned out for Sutton, Jeudy, or the Broncos. Sutton struggled with injuries, though has still remained productive even fighting through them. Jeudy, on the other hand, has had some injury history of his own he has dealt with. Even when healthy, though, Jeudy never seemed to quite be on the same page with his quarterback, or with the Broncos organization as a whole.

The situation eventually deteriorated to the point where Jeudy was unhappy and let it be known, which eventually wound up with the receiver being traded to the Cleveland Browns. Recently in an interview with Chris Tomasson of the Denver Gazette , Jeudy opened up about the circumstances surrounding his exit from the Broncos. Jeudy revealed that it was he who wanted out of Denver, and that he requested a trade from the team – not once, but twice.

“It didn’t come out of the blue at all,” Jeudy said. “I’m the one that decided that. I made the decision to come (to Cleveland) and I’m excited with my decision. … I actually came up to (the Broncos) and asked that I wanted a new atmosphere, a new change of scenery. I just wanted to go somewhere else and have a new feel and a new atmosphere.”

“At the beginning of the season, I asked Sean for it,’’ Jeudy said. “I asked Sean for a trade and he said no. … Sean was like, ‘We love you and we want you here.’ He was not going to trade me, basically.”

“After the year, they told me they knew my frustrations and they understood, like, what I want to do and want to begin,’’ Jeudy said. “They understood everything and agreed to (a trade).”

Now Jeudy finds himself in a similar situation in Cleveland, coming in and being expected to be a complement to existing #1 wide receiver Amari Cooper. We’ll see if getting healthy and the change of scenery he wanted unlocks the potential that Jeudy came into the 2020 NFL Draft with.
