Spurs finalize club-record deal as Ange Postecoglu outlines striker profile

Tottenham are reportedly closing in on a club record transfer deal to sign Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth.

Solanke enjoyed a superb 2023/24 season with the Cherries, netting 19 Premier League goals, a tally only bettered by Erling Haaland, Cole Palmer and Alexander Isak.

Despite missing out on a place in England's Euro 2024 squad, Solanke's stock remains high, with his current deal on the south coast running until 2027.

With Bournemouth prepared to fight to keep their star man, Spurs are likely to be quoted his full rumoured £65m ($83m) release clause, if they want to bring him to North London.

That would be a club record purchase for Spurs, breaking Tanguy Ndombele's £53m ($68m) record from 2019 and record sale for Bournemouth, with Nathan Ake's £39m ($50m) move to Manchester City in 2020 the current top offload,

Spurs scored 74 EPL goals last season, the seventh highest in the top-flight, despite finishing fifth in the overall team rankings.

That means UEFA Europa League football in the coming months and Solanke would add depth to an area which head coach Ange Postecoglu admitted is lacking.

"We demand certain things from a physical perspective from the technical aspects of it that it's going be a striker that fits that mould. It's still the area of the park we're really probably the thinnest when I talk about squad-wise, so obviously that's a focus for us", as per an interview with Football London's Alasdair Gold.

Solanke's reported eagerness to make the move, and test himself on the next level is a key pull factor for Postecoglu, as the Australian values mentality and adaptability as key traits in his squad.

However, the potential to raise funds via Richarlison moving to Saudi Arabia has been blocked, with the Brazilian confirming he is not interested in an exit.

Postecoglu and Tottenham wrap up their preseason with a home clash against Bayern Munich on August 10, after losing to the Bavarians last week in South Korea, ahead of starting the league campaign at newly promoted Leicester City on August 19.
