The Seattle Mariners have been at the top of the American League West for the vast majority of the 2024 season. They currently sit in second place in the division behind the Houston Astros.

They added some key offensive pieces at the trade deadline but also let go of first baseman Ty France. They could potentially use some help at the first base position in free agency.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post believes they could be in the mix for New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso.

Alonso would be an interesting fit for the Mariners. They did add some bats at the deadline, but could always use some more help on the offensive side.

The 29-year-old Mets superstar is hitting .246 with 25 home runs, 63 RBI, and .807 OPS. Having him next to Julio Rodriguez, Mitch Haniger, Cal Raleigh, and Randy Arozarena would give the Mariners a major boost offensively.

Alonso is a two-time Home Run Derby champion, former National League Rookie of the Year, and a four-time All-Star. He'll certainly be one of the most sought-after sluggers this coming winter in free agency.

They would be a serious threat to win a World Series title in 2025 if they were to make this move. It will certainly be interesting to see what they'll do in the offseason.

They won't be the only team to be interested in Alonso, but they could give the Mets a challenge if they do decide to pursue him this winter.
