Drew Lock injury update: The latest on Giants quarterback's status

    By Kevin Hickey,

New York Giants quarterback Drew Lock is expected to miss some time after suffering an injury during the team's preseason opener against the Detroit Lions .

Even though general manager Joe Schoen provided an update mid-game during the broadcast saying Lock could have returned if needed, a new report surfaced that's a bit more concerning.

After further testing, Lock's injury reportedly will force him to miss some time as he deals with a bad bone contusion and strained oblique, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network .

Lock is not expected to undergo surgery, but the Giants likely will need to add another quarterback to the room for the preseason.

It's unclear what the timeline of return will be for Lock.

Lock got the start for the Giants with Daniel Jones and the majority of starters getting the night off. Weathering the elements, Lock struggled even before leaving due to the injury.

He completed 4-of-10 passes for 17 yards, an interception and an 8.3 passer rating on 18 snaps.

Second-year quarterback Tommy DeVito filled in for the remainder of the game finishing with a more modest line completing 8-of-15 passes for 92 yards and a 72.1 passer rating.

It will be interesting to see how the Giants go about replacing Lock in the meantime, but another body will need to be added if he's going to miss the preseason.
