Manchester United have reached an agreement with Bayern Munich to sign defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, as Erik ten Hag moves to strengthen his injury-hit backline ahead of the new season.

The Red Devils have secured a deal worth €45 million ($49.1m), with an additional €5 million ($5.4m) in add-ons, for Matthijs de Ligt.

The 24-year-old Netherlands international is set to undergo a medical before signing a five-year contract, with the option to extend for an additional year.

De Ligt, who previously played for Juventus and Ajax, brings a wealth of experience to United’s defence, which has been plagued by injuries in recent weeks.

In a separate deal, Bayern Munich have accepted a €15 million offer, plus €5 million in bonuses, for full-back Noussair Mazraoui.

However, this transfer is contingent on the departure of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who is on the verge of joining West Ham United.

The Hammers have agreed on a £15 million ($19.1m) fee with United, with only the finalization of Wan-Bissaka’s termination at Old Trafford standing in the way.

A medical for Wan-Bissaka is expected to take place in London within the next few days.

Wan-Bissaka, who joined Manchester United from Crystal Palace in 2019 for £45 million ($57.3m), has made 190 first-team appearances. Despite being a regular in previous seasons, his departure paves the way for Mazraoui to join United and add depth to Ten Hag’s defensive options.
