Twins have major decision to make with resurgent veteran reliever

The Minnesota Twins currently sit in the second American League Wild Card spot with less than two months to go in the regular season. As of now, they seem to be pointed towards the postseason.

However, they have a decision to make soon with a key bullpen arm, as was reported by Jon Heyman.

"Matt Bowman, RHP with Twins, is exercising his opt-out clause," Heyman wrote on Twitter. "Has 1.37 ERA over 29 2/3 innings with 33 strikeouts and 1.01 WHIP in St. Paul and since moving to third base side of rubber a zero ERA over 8 2/3 innings with 11 strikeouts. The Twins have until Monday to add him to MLB roster or release him."

Bowman has bounced around this season. He has mostly pitched for the Twins but has also made stops with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners.

With the Twins, Bowman owns a 2.35 ERA over five appearances. He has made 10 appearances throughout this season and has a 5.40 ERA. But it appears he might be turning the corner.

The veteran right-hander made his Major League debut in 2016 with the St. Louis Cardinals and emerged as a reliable reliever for the team before injuries derailed him.

If the Twins don't add him to their Major League roster, he could be of use to other contending teams looking for bullpen help down the stretch, so it will be interesting to see what happens with him and if the Twins decide to keep him around.
