Victor Wembanyama sends powerful message to rest of the NBA

San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama brought France within a single victory of the gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

They fell short to Team USA, but not without Wembanyama putting up a substantial effort. He finished the day with 26 points on 11 of 19 shooting, proving he’s a future NBA superstar (if he’s not one already).

Following the defeat, the Spurs’ generational talent sent a powerful message to not only the NBA but the rest of the basketball world.

“I’m learning, and I’m worried for the opponents in a couple of years,” Wembanyama said, per reporter Mike Finger.

He was asked a follow-up of: “In FIBA or the NBA?” To which he responded, “Everywhere.”

This level of confidence coming from most players would be considered foolish, but not Wembanyama. The French phenom is a freak of nature at 7-foot-4 with a guard skillset. His rookie campaign proved the sky is limit, averaging roughly 20 points and 10 rebounds in limited playing time. Once his minutes restriction is lifted, he will likely take the leap to an MVP candidate.

Injuries are seemingly the only obstacle standing in his way, considering his rather slim frame. Although; he’s shown the ability to bulk up to an extent this summer.

With the NBA season just a few months away, fans should expect a major jump following a summer full of hoops for Wembanyama.
