Red Sox showing interest in former pitcher for starting rotation depth

The Boston Red Sox were one of the teams that were present at free agent and former Sox pitcher Rich Hill’s showcase, per Rob Bradford .

His involvement with the team would be helping with the concerns about the workload that the starting rotation for the Sox are facing.

Last time Hill was in the league was in 2023 for the San Diego Padres, where he had a 8.23 ERA and only pitched 27 innings. However, before he landed with the Padres later that season, he was with the Pirates, where he pitched much better, having a 4.76 ERA and 104 strikeouts. Combining both teams, Hill would have had 129 strikeouts.

Realistically, Hill would not be a true starter and be expected to go six or seven innings, but to pitch three or four and then have the bullpen take over the rest of the game. He also would not be used much, just for times when the actual starter needs to skip a start due to not being 100%.

It would be nice to reunite with Hill, and have him run it back with his former team and finish his career in Boston.
