Colts top backup running back suffers hamstring injury in preseason opener

Indianapolis Colts running back Trey Sermon suffered a hamstring injury during the preseason opener against the Denver Broncos .

After the starters were taken out of the game following the first two drives, Sermon came in with the second-team offense alongside quarterback Joe Flacco.

However, near the beginning of the second quarter, it was announced that Sermon was ruled out for the remainder of the game due to a hamstring injury.

Though it isn't clear how severe the injury is, it's never usually a good sign when a player suffers a soft-tissue injury during the preseason.

Sermon entered the preseason opener leading the battle for the backup running back position over Evan Hull and Tyler Goodson.

Depending on whether Sermon misses time, both Hull and Goodson should get more reps with the second-team offense.
