The Denver Broncos' decision to use the 12th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to select Bo Nix raised some eyebrows, but they did so with hopes of him being the franchise's QB of the future.

During Week 1 of the 2024 NFL preseason, Denver had the opportunity to get a glance at where Nix stands after rookie camp, OTAs and his first few weeks of training camp. And Nix's showing was more than encouraging.

What type of effort did Nix put forth in his first time under center for the Broncos? Here is a closer look at his first performance during Denver's preseason opener in Indianapolis.

    Bo Nix stats today

Nix played five series for the Broncos, four of which resulted in scores. Based on his efficiency, it's clear that Nix made the most of each drive under center.

Nix's first drive came at the end of the first quarter, where he led the team on an 11-play drive that continued into the second. The first drive ended with a field goal and saw Nix go 2-of-6 — but among the completions was a running 22-yard completion to Courtland Sutton on third-and-10 to continue the drive.

Four minutes into the second quarter, Denver received the ball again. Nix led the team on a 10-play, 56-yard drive that culminated with a one-yard touchdown pass to Marvin Mims Jr.

After a possession that ended with a fumble and one more drive that ended with a field goal, Nix's final drive came at the beginning of the second half as Denver took a 20-10 lead after going 10 plays for 56 yards.

    Bo Nix highlights vs. Colts

Nix's first completion came in style, as he extended the drive after scrambling to find Sutton for a 22-yard completion.

While that possession ended with a field goal, Nix's first touchdown pass was also impressive. In a play-action set, Nix found Mims in a tight window to connect for six.

On his final drive of the game, Nix's impressive 22-yard third-down toss to RB Jaleel McLaughlin extended the drive, which resulted in a two-yard touchdown scamper from Audric Estime.

All in all, it was an impressive first showing from Nix, who displayed his ability to make plays on the run and extend drives with accurate passes on third down.

The future is looking bright in Denver.
