Colorado could be college football’s most disappointing team in 2024

Not everyone is sold on the resurgence of the Colorado football program under second-year head coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.

College Football News put Colorado at No. 1 on its list of five college football teams most likely to disappoint on Aug. 9. All five of the teams to make the list will be playing in new conferences in 2024 with No. 2 SMU (ACC), No. 3 Oklahoma (SEC), No. 4 Oregon (Big Ten) and No. 5 Texas (SEC).

From College Football News: “Where is the 99.9% sure-thing Colorado win? North Dakota State? The best team in the FCS is a problem. At Nebraska? Nope. At Colorado State? Ehhhh, not really. Baylor is better than you think, at UCF is dangerous, Kansas State might play for the Big 12 title, at Arizona is at best a fight, Cincinnati has improved, and at Texas Tech is a concern. Utah might be a top four seed in the College Football Playoff, the neutral site game against Kansas — the Jayhawks don’t have a home this year — is at best even, and Oklahoma State (will) close it all out.”

Colorado returns two of the nation’s best players in quarterback Shedeur Sanders and cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter , who are both projected as first-round draft picks in 2025, but the roster beyond that is largely a mish-mash of high-level recruits and transfer portal players.
