Manchester United are on the verge of completing a stunning double signing, as Bayern Munich defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui head to Manchester for their medical tests.

The deals are expected to be finalized this week, with both players ready to join the Red Devils on five-year contracts.

De Ligt, a long-term target for United, was spotted at Munich airport early Monday morning, confirming that Mazraoui was already waiting for him as they prepared to board a private jet to Manchester.

The duo will undergo their medicals at Carrington later today, with contracts reportedly already prepared.

Both players have agreed on personal terms, with De Ligt signing a deal that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2029, including an option for an additional year. The Dutch centre-back will reunite with his former Ajax manager, Erik ten Hag, who has been keen to bolster United’s defence after a string of injuries left the squad thin.

Mazraoui, who also played under Ten Hag at Ajax, is expected to provide much-needed competition at right-back, especially with Aaron Wan-Bissaka set to leave for West Ham. The 26-year-old Moroccan international will strengthen the Red Devils’ defensive options ahead of the new Premier League season.

The combined deal for De Ligt and Mazraoui is valued at approximately £60 million ($76.5m), with Bayern Munich accepting separate bids totalling £51.5 million ($65.7m) for the two defenders. The signings mark a significant boost for Manchester United as they aim to challenge for major honours this season.

While Ten Hag remained tight-lipped about the impending arrivals following United's Community Shield loss to Manchester City, he did acknowledge the need for reinforcements. "It's clear we have the problems," Ten Hag admitted. "We have to work, the players have to work to be available and the staff have to work. Together it should be a good collaboration with the players who are available."

With the medicals expected to be completed today, United fans will be eagerly awaiting the official announcement of De Ligt and Mazraoui as the club’s latest signings. Both players could be in contention to feature in United's Premier League opener against Fulham on Friday, signalling the start of a new era at Old Trafford under Ten Hag’s leadership.
