Dodgers shockingly DFA veteran infielder after just five games in LA

The Los Angeles Dodgers have one of the best rosters in baseball but injuries have significantly depleted the team's depth.

Because of this, the Dodgers were one of the most active teams in baseball ahead of the trade deadline. Los Angeles improved the starting rotation by adding Jack Flaherty in a trade with the Detroit Tigers right before the deadline passed. The Dodgers also added depth throughout the organization by adding players like Amed Rosario and Tommy Edman.

Although Rosario is having a solid campaign and is hitting over .300 for the season in 81 games, Los Angeles surprisingly designated him for assignment on Monday after just five games with the team, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.

"Dodgers DFA Amed Rosario," Heyman said.

Rosario began the season with the Tampa Bay Rays before landing with the Dodgers. Overall, he was slashing .305/.331/.415 with two home runs, 18 doubles, 10 stolen bases, and 28 RBIs when he was designated for assignment by the Dodgers.

Plus, he has seen time at second base, shortstop, third base, and right field this season. It's surprising that the Dodgers designated Rosario for assignment and now it would be surprising if he were to go unclaimed on waivers. Don't be shocked if a contender attempts to bring him in soon.

The playoffs will be here before we know it and it would be surprising if a contender doesn't take a chance on Rosario thanks to his flexibility and great offensive performance this year.
