Yankees hope Jazz Chisholm injury 'not too serious'; will undergo MRI

New York Yankees star Jazz Chisholm exited Monday night's game against the Chicago White Sox early due to an elbow injury.

The trade deadline acquisition scored a run on an infield single from Anthony Volpe in the top of the fifth inning, but his left elbow was clearly bothering him after catcher Kory Lee applied the tag.

Two innings later, Chisholm was taken out of the game and examined by the White Sox team physician. He's set to undergo an MRI on Tuesday to determine the severity of the injury.

“I’m not super concerned about it,” Chisholm said after the gam e. “All the tests we’ve done in here have been pretty positive. I still feel it a little bit, still kind of sore, but I think we’re going to be good.”

On what was otherwise an embarrassing night in a 12-2 loss against MLB's worst team, Chisholm had provided the highlight of the night up until that point.

The 26-year-old singled in the top of the fifth inning and stole second base. As he attempted to steal third, Volpe hit a ground ball deep in the hole at shortstop.

Chisholm didn't hesitate as he rounded third base, narrowly beating the throw home to score from second base on a rare infield single.

“Hopefully we get good news on it [Tuesday],” manager Aaron Boone said. “Hopefully it’s not too serious.”

Chisholm has been a fantastic addition to the Yankees lineup since the organization acquired him ahead of the deadline.

In the 14 games since the trade, Chisholm is slashing .316/.361/.702 with a 189 OPS+, seven home runs, 11 RBI and five stolen bases in 61 plate appearances.
