Ex-NFL QB has seen enough to declare the Saints as league's worst team in 2024

The vibe coming out of New Orleans Saints training camp has been, admittedly, lukewarm so far.

Derek Carr’s offense looked so-so at best in the preseason debut, backup quarterbacks have been a big talking point, a 33-year-old Taysom Hill is one of the team’s most exciting features and the team enters Year 3 of Dennis Allen at head coach after a 9-8 season.

But it’s not all bad – just don’t tell former NFL quarterback Kurt Benkert.

Benkert, who spent five years in the league with various teams, offered up the following about the Saints: “The Saints might be the worst team in the NFL this year.”

The Saints should be able to avoid that fate, of course, after posting a winning season last year under Carr’s direction and gathering some continuity.

That, plus the Saints happen to play in the weak-looking NFC South. Some other possible flops, such as the New England Patriots, are out there are out to compete for the worst record in the NFL next season, too.

Still, this type of sentiment is out there about the Saints right now and it won’t improve much unless the team forcibly changes the narrative on the field.
