The Boston Red Sox have had some brutal luck this year when it comes to injuries, and left-handed pitcher James Paxton is the latest to land on the injured list.

Paxton left Sunday's game against the Houston Astros in the first inning due to a leg injury that forced him to limp off the field and get on crutches in the clubhouse. Paxton had an MRI on Monday and was placed on the injured list.

According to Mass Live's Sean McAdam , Paxton suffered a partial tear of his right calf muscle, and the timetable for his return "doesn't look good to return this season."

Boston acquired Paxton from the Los Angeles Dodgers at the MLB trade deadline. He started three games for the team, allowing eight runs (five earned) on 13 hits and two walks while striking out nine over 11 innings.

The Red Sox have already been struggling to get anything from their pitchers since the All-Star break, and this is another bump in the road for Alex Cora's squad. One of Cooper Criswell, Josh Winckowski or Quinn Priester may have to permanently move to the rotation.
