The Detroit Lions had a tough day of practice on Monday, Aug. 12, as three key players went down with injuries, including running back Jahmyr Gibbs.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter , the initial diagnosis for Gibbs was a hamstring injury, but the specifics and severity of the injury weren't immediately revealed.

Gibbs is no stranger to hamstring issues, as he missed two games in 2023 due to an injury to the area. Earlier this offseason, the second-year running back missed time due to a soft-tissue injury .

Gibbs is coming off an impressive rookie campaign that saw him tally 1,261 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns, including 945 on the ground. He is expected to have an expanded role in the passing game in 2024 and will continue to split work on the ground with fellow running back, David Montgomery.

“I definitely would expect him to see more of a load, but David Montgomery will still be here too,” general manager Brad Holmes said . “Dan and I love that 1-2 punch of him and David... I think he has much more to offer in the passing game, so most likely you’ll see an increase in that as well.”

With Gibbs set to be a pivotal player in the Lions' offense this year, fans are waiting with bated breath for an update on the Alabama product. We'll be keeping track of all the latest news on Gibbs' status in our tracker below, which will be updated as soon as more information becomes available.
