Former Bills receiver says trading Stefon Diggs was perfect for Josh Allen

The Buffalo Bills underwent a lot of changes offensively this offseason, including but certainly not limited to trading away four-time Pro Bowl receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans.

This came after rumored tension within the building between Diggs, Josh Allen, and head coach Sean McDermott .

And while the Bills have added several new receivers over the course of the last five months, including rookie Keon Coleman, there are plenty who are worried about Buffalo's offense and how explosive their passing game could be. Someone who isn't worried about the Bills' offense is former receiver Stevie Johnson, who believes Allen now will not be under pressure to force the ball to anyone.

“It’s perfect for Josh,” Johnson said . “There is nobody you need to force it to. I don’t think there will be a fall-off at all. The only fall-off will be by the eye, when there’s no guy with 1,200 yards. They may not have that, but what you’re going to see is a more loose quarterback, because instead of thinking about two options and then needing to scramble, there’s so many options. It’s good for a quarterback to have a balanced, clear head, knowing that I can use any piece – not forced to look this way for a certain amount of time.”

Diggs didn't have a 100-yard receiving game after Week 6 in 2023, so the worries of a massive fall-off seem far-fetched. Buffalo will look to lean more into the ground game, as well as more efficient looks in the passing game rather than living and dying by the deep ball.
