Phillies are likely preparing monstrous offer for Yankees superstar

As the Philadelphia Phillies have begun to look less and less like a World Series favorite, the likelihood that they make a splash this offseason has risen.

If the loaded Phillies do indeed fail to win a title this fall, it’s easy to imagine Phillies GM Dave Dombrowski doing whatever it takes to acquire New York Yankees superstar Juan Soto this winter.

Signing Soto would be more of a tsunami than a splash, as Soto is reportedly set to launch a colossal bidding war for his services between the New York Yankees and New York Mets, which will presumably make Soto baseball’s highest-paid player.

Why couldn’t Philadelphia swoop in and offer Soto a deal he can’t refuse?

Sure, the Phillies would have to trade away key pieces to clear room for Soto, but no one could deny Dombrowski’s willingness and capacity to do so, especially following a ringless 2024.

Soto was already linked to the Phillies in June by New York Post’s Jon Heyman, among others.

Philadelphia falling short in the playoffs would deflate its entire franchise and fanbase, but making a successful play for Soto would reinvigorate the city, and then some.

Soto to the Phillies could be Dombrowski’s final masterclass.
