The Los Angeles Chargers are hoping to add a former San Francisco 49ers quarterback to their coaching staff.

On Wednesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter relayed a report from USA Today that Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh has reached out to Colin Kaepernick about a coaching position with Los Angeles.

Kaepernick played six seasons with the 49ers -- the entirety of his NFL career -- and led San Francisco to Super Bowl XLVII. He hasn't appeared on an NFL field since 2016 but did work out for the Las Vegas Raiders in May 2022.

Notably, Pete Carroll of the Seattle Seahawks has publicly admitted that he regrets not having signed Kaepernick in 2017.

Now, Kaepernick is on another head coach's radar, this time for a different role. Harbaugh told USA Today that Kaepernick is considering the offer.

“He's considering it. He was out of the country. He said he was going to get back to me,” Harbaugh said, per Schefter. Harbaugh has a close connection with Kaepernick, having drafted the QB in 2011 as head coach of the 49ers.

Kaepernick's civil rights activism has been the subject of intense media scrutiny over the past near-decade.
