The New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys shockingly came to an agreement on a trade involving veteran defensive tackle Jordan Phillips.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network , the Giants are sending Phillips and a 2026 seventh-round pick to the Cowboys for a 2026 sixth-round pick.

The news of the deal was first reported by Josina Anderson.

The rare swap between division rivals doesn't happen often, but this is a move that might benefit both sides.

Phillips, who signed with the Giants this offseason , has been struggling throughout training camp to make an impact on the depth chart.

He has been working behind younger defensive tackles with more upside like Ryder Anderson, Rakeem Nunez-Roches and D.J. Davidson at the one-technique.

Even undrafted rookie Elijah Chatman, who works mostly at the three-technique, was likely ahead of him in the pecking order in terms of the depth chart.

Phillips has had a solid career as a depth piece along the interior defensive line, but he was likely going to be on the outside looking in when it came time for the Giants to make roster cuts.

Getting something for him before the Giants simply release the veteran was a wise move by general manager Joe Schoen.

Over the last two seasons with the Buffalo Bills, the 31-year-old recorded 4.0 sacks, 35 tackles and five tackles for loss in 26 games (10 starts).
