Denver Broncos should approach Minnesota Vikings about former first-round pick

With preseason games heating up and roster decisions looming, now is a prime time for teams around the NFL to start looking into potential trades, either as a way to purge their roster or gain a player at a good value.

The New England Patriots just made a trade with the Atlanta Falcons, sending them Matthew Judon for a future first-round pick.

So how could the Denver Broncos get in on the action? Well, it's certainly not by trading Javonte Williams as suggested by Ryan Fowler of Bleacher Report . However, Fowler does mention a player that the Broncos should have an interest in... Minnesota Vikings safety Lewis Cine.

Now if you hate the sound of this idea, that is understandable. Cine, taken with the No. 32 overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, has largely been considered a draft bust by most. He has played in just nine games and has one tackle... one.

Why should the Broncos take a shot on Lewis Cine?

This would have to be a low-cost deal for the Broncos to lower the risk. The fact of the matter is, Cine might not be cut out for the NFL.

But the Broncos have an issue at safety and it will rear its ugly head during the 2024 season. The starting safeties are slated to be Brandon Jones and P.J. Locke but a hamstring injury has shelved Jones for most of training camp.

Behind them, the team has an untested JL Skinner and Delarrin Turner-Yell, a player who is great on special teams but a liability on defense. Adding someone like Cine makes sense if the price is right.

Cine was part of one of the best defenses college football has ever seen at Georgia. In three years with the Bulldogs, Cine had 97 tackles and two interceptions. His athleticism allows for him to be good against the run and the pass and he brings physicality to the position as well.

Cine is still only 24 years old. If he could be had for a day three draft pick, make the deal.
