Seahawks vet Leonard Williams wisely lays off punching Titans rookie at joint practice

The Seattle Seahawks and the Tennessee Titans are currently in the middle of their second joint training camp practice in as many days. So far the two teams have managed to get through their practice sessions without any major fights breaking out, with only a bit of the usual pushing, shoving and trash-talking being reported . That's a credit to the coaching of both Mike Macdonald and Brian Callahan, but they also need cooler heads to prevail to prevent the kind of team-wide brawls that result in injuries.

It sounds like they just avoided what might have turned into a pretty ugly fight, thanks to some restraint by Seattle's giant star defensive lineman Leonard Williams . According to one account, he got tangled up during 11-on-11 drills with Titans rookie offensive tackle JC Latham.

Apparently Big Cat wound up to punch Latham but then held off, per Mike Dugar at The Athletic.

This is yet another reason why it was smart to re-sign Williams , even if the original trade to get him wasn't ideal. Based on what we've heard coming out of training camp this particular team's blood is going to run hot, not unlike those early Legion of Boom squads where fights at training camp were a regular thing.

Williams provides the Seahawks with some much-needed experience in the trenches, with 142 career starts in the NFL under his belt - and also the kind of wisdom that can sometimes be lacking in pro athletes who are under 30 years old.
