The Los Angeles Dodgers may need some pitching reinforcements this weekend for their series against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The team has not named a starter for their series opener at Busch Stadium. However, they could potentially bring back a familiar face, according to Fabian Ardaya.

"Bobby Miller was scratched from his Triple-A start tonight with Oklahoma City," Ardaya tweeted. "He is being held back in case the Dodgers wind up needing coverage this weekend, per source, not because of any physical issue."

Miller burst onto the scene last year, going 11-4 with a 3.76 ERA in 22 starts in his rookie campaign. He has not been able to replicate that success in 2024.

The 25-year-old right-hander has dealt with injuries this season and also has been largely ineffective for the Dodgers this season, going 1-2 in seven starts with an 8.07 ERA.

However, the Dodgers may need some coverage this weekend, and they could potentially look to have him start Friday's opener. Miller faced the Cardinals on March 29 and tossed six scoreless innings, recording 11 strikeouts in the process.

The Dodgers own the second-best record in the National League behind the Philadelphia Phillies but have watched their lead in the NL West shrink to two games over the San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks.

Facing the slumping Cardinals could provide them with a break in the schedule.

We'll see if the Dodgers can capitalize on the opportunity to face a weaker opponent this weekend.
