The New York Giants signed fullback Jakob Johnson, and waived/injured tight end and emergency quarterback Tyree Jackson, the team announced Friday.

While the Giants are giving Johnson the fullback/tight end title, he's played a total of nine snaps at the tight end position throughout his career.

Johnson spent two years with the Las Vegas Raiders working with current Giants offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo.

Jackson was waived/injured after suffering a back injury during Thursday's training camp practice. He was supposed to be the emergency quarterback for Saturday's preseason game against the Houston Texans .

With Jackson now waived, the Giants will lean on backup Drew Lock as the emergency quarterback while he nurses a hip injury.

It seems the Giants want to have a role for an H-back type considering Daniel Bellinger had been getting snaps in that role throughout training camp.

However, that role will be long to Johnson for the remainder of the preseason, and it will be interesting if the Giants make room for him on the active roster when it's time to make cuts.
