Red Sox switch to opener just hours before Game 2 vs. Orioles

The Boston Red Sox are gearing up for their Friday night battle with the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards, but just hours before first pitch, they made a change to their plans.

According to MassLive's Chris Cotillo, the Red Sox will use left-handed reliever Brennan Bernardino as an opener for the matchup and bring in expected starter Cooper Criswell later on.

Bernardino has struggled recently and was actually sent down to Triple-A before being recalled due to injuries in the bullpen. On the season, he's posted a 3.79 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP while striking out 40. This would be his third starter of the season. In the previous two, he's allowed just one hit and one walk in three innings.

Criswell is returning from the COVID-19 list and this will be his first outing in over 10 days.
