Braves rookie pitcher sets franchise strikeout record in Angels loss

Even though the Atlanta Braves lost to the Los Angeles Angels, there was a glimmer of light for one rookie pitcher.

Needless to say, last night's game against the Angels was a disappointment for the Braves. Even though Atlanta had more hits and seven total walks, they came just short of beating Los Angeles.

One player who isn't happy with their performance is starting pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach. While he threw eight strikeouts, he also threw two walks and allowed three runs, including a home run in the fourth inning.

Despite feeling good when he started, Schwellenbach soon revealed to the media in a postgame interview that he knew he needed to step down.

"It felt good," Schwellenbach said. "It felt like my stuff was working well up until the sixth inning. I walked two guys, and you can't expect to stay up there when you do that."

While this performance may seem like a setback, it also marks a landmark moment for the young Braves pitcher.

According to Bally Sports: Braves , Schwellenbach has officially set a franchise record for most strikeouts in a pitcher's first 13 games for the franchise.

Since debuting on May 29, Schwellenbach has earned 85 strikeouts. His most significant performance came against the New York Mets on July 27, when he threw 11 strikeouts and allowed no runs.

Schwellenbach may have a 4-6 win-loss record, but it's clear that things are just beginning for the rookie. If he continues this trajectory, Schwellenbach will remain a constant in the Braves dugout for years to come.
