New York Jets announce 32 players sitting out preseason battle in Carolina

The New York Jets are giving the kids a chance to shine in Preseason Game No. 2 on the road against the Carolina Panthers .

All offensive and defensive starters, along with multiple veteran backups, are inactive for Saturday night's exhibition contest in Charlotte. A total of 31 players are not dressed, including future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Veteran QB2 Tyrod Taylor will be in uniform but is only available as the emergency option. The Jets made the announcement approximately 90 minutes prior to the scheduled 7:00 pm ET kickoff.

Meanwhile, Andrew Peasley and Adrian Martinez will get ample opportunity at quarterback.

It's the second week in a row that 20+ starters are not suiting up. A total of 28 players were inactive for the preseason opener against the Washington Commanders . Second-year center Joe Tippmann was the lone projected starter who played last week, but the Wisconsin product will get to watch from the sidelines this time around.

The Jets' young running backs, minus RB1 Breece Hall, will have a chance to battle it out in a game situation. Rookies Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis produced positive film during their debuts at MetLife Stadium.

On defense, New York will get a good look at rookie cornerback Qwan'tez Stiggers and converted corner Jarrick Bernard-Converse.

The Jets will host the New York Giants in the preseason finale on August 24. The Green & White have yet to announce if the starters will participate in the last-chance tune-up.
