Could Miami Dolphins trade RB if rookie’s breakout continues?

The Miami Dolphins might have a great problem on their hands at running back around Tua Tagovailoa.

Raheem Mostert and De'Von Achane are a fantastic one-two punch in Mike McDaniel’s offense. Yet, fourth-round rookie Jaylen Wright just keeps putting on a show, to the point it’s wondering if he can’t crack the rotation right away.

And if he does, might the Dolphins host a fire sale on the trade block?

It’s an idea proposed by Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon :

“What the heck do they do if Jaylen Wright shines again this weekend and proves to be the real deal? Eventually, in a competitive division with weak spots elsewhere on the roster, and with Raheem Mostert and De'Von Achane already on the running back depth chart, the Dolphins would have to consider a deal involving one of those two veterans. It's not a bad problem to have.”

Wright has forced this type of conversation. In his pro debut, he ran 10 times and averaged 5.5 yards while scoring a touchdown. And in the team’s second preseason game, he wasn’t on the field, with McDaniel citing a “minor’ injury that the team didn’t want to push him through.

But fans can be forgiven for thinking it might also be related to the fact his preseason and training camp showings have earned him a spot in the immediate rotation.

Considering both Mostert and Achane didn’t play full seasons last year and that the trade market for running backs is likely pretty quiet, the Dolphins might not find much headway on the trade block.

But the main point is Wright’s ascension, which has been a faster-than-expected surprise for what is already one of the NFL’s most lethal offenses.
