The Kansas City Chiefs fell to the Detroit Lions in Week 2 of the preseason by the score of 24-23. However, August is the time to pay attention to individual performances over the scoreboard, and the Chiefs had several notable showings from rookies to fringe veterans alike. Here are the players who stood out the most.

    LT Kingsley Suamataia

The rookie left tackle out of BYU already looks like he’s ready to be the man to protect Patrick Mahomes’ blind side and get out in space to wreak havoc and open lanes downfield. The most notable play from Suamataia came on a reverse to Xavier Worthy that saw him speed out wide and clear a path for the rookie receiver.

In the camp battle between Suamataia and Wanya Morris, I’d say the rookie is going to get the nod in Week 1.

    CB Keith Taylor

The veteran out of Washington had an interception where he ran stride-for-stride with Lions receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones and picked off Nate Sudfeld.

The former fifth-round pick of the Carolina Panthers is looking to crack a spot in the cornerback rotation, and that is a very good way to do it.

    WR Cornell Powell

The Clemson product had one catch on the day, but it was a big one. He took a pass from Chris Oladokun 64 yards for a touchdown, shaking off multiple Lions defenders in the process.

The Chiefs drafted Powell in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, and he has been a mainstay of the practice squad ever since, only appearing in three games back in 2022.With Kadarius Toney continuing to look unplayable, Powell could snag a spot on the 53-man roster.
