Phillies All-Star slugger named biggest breakout star of 2024 MLB Season

The Philadelphia Phillies have had an outstanding season, currently leading Major League Baseball with a 73-51 record.

This is in large part due to talented veterans like first baseman Bryce Harper and shortstop Trea Turner as well as multiple players who stepped up to the plate.

One of the biggest surprises for the Phillies was third baseman Alec Bohm, who was named one of the biggest breakout players of the 2024 MLB season by Tim Kelly of BleacherReport .

"Alec Bohm is 6-foot-5, 218 pounds, and when he hits home runs, they go a long way," Kelly said. "There's long been a feeling from those around the Phillies that he could develop into someone who hits 30 homers a season.

"That hasn't happened this year, as Bohm has a modest 13 home runs in 2024. However, he currently leads baseball with 43 doubles, a mark that helped him to start at third base for the NL in his first All-Star Game appearance."

Additionally, Bohm is third in the National League for hits (140, tied with Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers) and runs batted in (85, tied with Willy Adams of the Milwaukee Brewers).

"Perhaps most impressive is that Bohm has become a passable third baseman, with minus-two defensive runs saved and one out above average this season," Kelly said. "Between 2021 and 2023, Bohm had -40 DRS and -11 OAA , so he's shown remarkable growth at the hot corner."

Bohm wasn't the only Phillies player to make the list. He was also joined by pitcher Cristopher Sánchez , who has also had an incredible season.
