Ex-Cardinals quarterback announces retirement from the NFL

Former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Colt McCoy has announced his retirement from the NFL . McCoy’s last NFL appearance came as a member of the Arizona Cardinals during the 2022 season. He spent the final two seasons of his NFL career in Arizona, making six starts and throwing for just over 1500 yards with a 1:1 TD-to-INT ratio.

McCoy’s NFL career started with the Cleveland Browns after being selected in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft . During his time in Cleveland, he served as the team’s primary starter his first two seasons, before ultimately being relegated to a backup role, a role he would fulfill for five different teams, including Arizona, over the course of his career.

All told, McCoy finished his NFL career with an 11-25 record as a starter, throwing for just under 8,000 yards with 34 touchdowns to 32 interceptions. He notched two fourth-quarter comebacks and had five game-winning drives during his career, and made his lone trip to the playoffs in 2021, his first season with the Cardinals.

Prior to landing in the NFL, McCoy was a standout quarterback at the University of Texas, winning 45 games during his illustrious four-year career. McCoy was a two-time Heisman Trophy finalist and led the Longhorns to the National Championship game in 2010. Now, McCoy finds himself back in the college ranks, joining the NBC television crew as they take over broadcasting Big 10 games for the 2024 season.
