Ohio State football saw great success under Urban Meyer. The Buckeyes went 7-0 against archrival Michigan, won three Big Ten championships, and won one national championship in 2014. Meyer left Columbus in 2018 and filled the Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coaching vacancy in 2021, a job he got fired from not even a year later.

Meyer’s former offensive coordinator, Ryan Day, has since taken over the program. Day has only one Big Ten championship and has lost to the Wolverines three straight times. However, Ohio State hired former UCLA coach Chip Kelly this past offseason as the school’s new offensive coordinator.

The three-time national champion head coach likes what Kelly can bring to Columbus this upcoming season.

“He is now the perfect play guy,” Meyer said Monday afternoon on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd.” “He’s a guy that will huddle, take their time, and get the perfect play. And that’s drastically different than what he was as a head coach at Oregon.  I’m anxious to see it.”

Having two talented running backs on the roster makes this a great scheme fit for the Buckeyes. Kelly is known to get the most out of his running backs, such as LaMichael James at Oregon, so Quinshon Judkins and TreyVeyon Henderson are bound to play a crucial role in this offense.

Seeing how this team looks with Day no longer calling the offense will be interesting. With expectations at a familiarly high level and a talented roster, it’s safe to say that the pressure is picking up for Day as head coach.
