The Dallas Cowboys and Mazi Smith are breathing a sigh of relief after a peanut allergy scare sent the star nose tackle to the hospital on Friday.

According to Clarence Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Smith is set to practice Monday after experiencing an allergic reaction on the team bus. After spending time at the hospital on Friday, Smith reportedly "feels much better."

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy added his thoughts on the situation , per Hill:

“Frankly, everybody was on the bus. And I was passing him as he was coming off the bus and I was getting on,” McCarthy said after the game. “But those things are always serious when you have an allergic reaction like that.”

This, of course, is tremendous news. Peanut allergies can potentially lead to dangerous health issues. Thankfully, Smith was able to get the care he needs to get back to what he does best: Stuffing opposing offenses in their tracks.

As a rookie last season, Smith appeared in all 17 regular-season games, starting three, and he appeared in the team's lone playoff game. The former Michigan star tallied 13 combined tackles and one sack in his first NFL season. He figures to take on a larger role in 2024 for the Cowboys.
