Tottenham Hotspur began their new Premier League season with a 1-1 draw against Leicester City, and while the team showed promise, new signing Dominic Solanke couldn't find the back of the net in his debut performance.

Despite the frustration of missing crucial chances, football pundit Gary Neville remains optimistic about Solanke's future at Tottenham.

Solanke joined Tottenham from Bournemouth with high expectations, and the pressure was on him to make an immediate impact.

During the match, Solanke had several opportunities to score but was repeatedly denied by Leicester's goalkeeper, Mads Hermansen. His energy and pressing in the final third were evident, but the lack of goals left fans wanting more.

What Gary Neville thinks of Dominic Solanke's performance?

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Gary Neville expressed his belief that Solanke's overall performance was strong, despite the absence of goals.

“I think he will feel like everything went as well as it possibly could have, apart from the most important thing,” Neville said. He emphasized that Solanke shouldn't be too hard on himself and predicted that the goals will come if he continued playing at this level.

Neville acknowledged that Solanke's debut was a test, especially with the heightened expectations following Harry Kane's departure.

The former Manchester United star pointed out that Solanke will face scrutiny for not scoring, but urged him to focus on the positives. “He will get goals if he carries on doing that, because I thought his overall performance was pretty good,” Neville added.

Pressure mounts on Tottenham's new striker

Tottenham's history with strikers has been mixed since the days of Harry Kane, with several forwards failing to live up to the club’s expectations. Now, with Kane's departure to Bayern Munich, the spotlight is firmly on Solanke to deliver.

Solanke, who had an impressive season with Bournemouth, now carries the hopes of Tottenham fans. While his debut may not have ended with a goal, Neville's faith in his abilities suggests that patience will be key.

Tottenham supporters will be eager to see Solanke break his duck soon, but as Neville suggests, the young striker's overall contributions to the team should not be overlooked.
