Pete Carroll 'keeping his distance' from the Seattle Seahawks, announces new career path

When the Seattle Seahawks announced the firing of former head coach Pete Carroll in January, it came as a shock to the fanbase and the media covering the team. There had been no indication that Carroll might be let go and no reporting it might happen prior to the bomb getting dropped via a report by ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.

At the time, the team said that Carroll would stay on in an unnamed advisory capacity. That seemed the prudent move given Carroll's popularity in the locker room and his long run of success with the organization. However, as time went on we never heard exactly what Carroll would be doing for the Seahawks and he hasn't been spotted by the media around the team facility at any point this offseason. In fact, Carroll's recent appearance on 93.3 KJR-FM was the first we've heard from him since he was let go as head coach.

That's by design, apparently. According to a report by Brady Henderson at ESPN , Carroll has been delibertately keeping his distance from the franchise.

"Carroll's radio appearance marked his first comments to local media since his farewell news conference at Seahawks headquarters in January, after team owner Jody Allen announced that he was transitioning into an advisory role with the organization. A source told ESPN that Carroll has only nominally been an adviser to the Seahawks, and he told the radio station that he has been keeping his distance from the team."

Carroll also broke some news of his own in the radio interview, stating that he would be teaching a class at USC this fall.

Prior to getting hired by the Seahawks, Carroll had been the head football coach there from 2001-2009, winning a national championship in 2005 over Oklahoma. That title was later stripped over recruiting violations regarding star running back Reggie Bush, who was also stripped of his Heisman award.

Carroll also said that he would be doing some "advising" for other clubs. He did not say who, but he did specifiy that they were not football teams.
