Jets' emerging star receiver responds to challenge from Aaron Rodgers

New York Jets ' future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers wants to see more from Garrett Wilson, the team's undisputed No. 1 wide receiver.

The 40-year-old Rodgers has spent much of training camp building a highlight reel with Wilson, who has seemingly won his one-on-one battles consistently while providing an open target for the quarterback.

While Rodgers has routinely mentioned his high opinion of Wilson, the four-time NFL MVP publicly issue somewhat of a challenge to Wilson.

"For Garrett, I just want to see his leadership role continue to expand, and his route tree to expand, and for his instincts to continue to further, but I'm really proud of him," said Rodgers after Tuesday's practice in Florham Park.

Wilson, who has back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons to show for his first two years as a pro, was back at it against the New York Giants in Wednesday's joint practice. The 2022 first-round draft pick was torching Giants' defensive backs for much of the day during team drills.

With the Jets in drive-the-field situations, Wilson hauled in two pretty touchdown passes from Rodgers, including a 55-yard bomb down left sideline on a third-down play. Earlier, with the Jets snapping from their own 30, Wilson was seemingly unaccounted for as he worked his way behind the defense to catch a pass around the opponent's 39-yard line. He turned upfield and motored the rest of the way for the score.

During 7-on-7 competition, Wilson put a move on Giants' cornerback Nick McCloud and flew past him for about a 25-yard gain.

Thus far, the joint practices have brought out the best in Wilson. The Jets' WR1 was responsible for providing a spark last week in Carolina. One week earlier, he consistently cooked Washington defenders .

It was a similar story again on Wednesday in Florham Park. There were no fights, but there were plenty of fireworks thanks to Wilson.
