Buffalo Bills should have traded for former first-round pick wide receiver

The Washington Commanders traded former first-round pick Jahan Dotson to the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles for a third-round pick and two seventh-round picks.

Dotson is coming off a year in which he caught 49 passes for 518 yards and four touchdowns. As a rookie in 2022, he caught seven touchdowns on 35 passes.

For the upside Dotson has as a former first-round pick, the Bills should have been in on this, and the fact that they weren’t continues a trend of the offseason.

The Cleveland Browns acquired Jerry Jeudy from the Denver Broncos in exchange for two day three picks, and the Carolina Panthers traded a sixth-round pick and cornerback Donte Jackson to the Pittsburgh Steelers for wide receiver Diontae Johnson - both of which the Bills should have been in on.

And while it’s clear the Bills are taking a similar approach to the wide receiver position that the Kansas City Chiefs took when they traded Tyreek Hill - a more “WR1 by committee” approach. And while that’s fine, if you can get a potential upgrade at the position on the cheap side of things, why not do it?

This isn’t to express a lack of belief in Keon Coleman, Curtis Samuel, or Khalil Shakir, but you can never have too many weapons in 2024, and Buffalo could have added one.
