The Houston Texans apparently don't know how an acronym works

There is absolutely nothing wrong with an NFL team having a slogan for its players to follow as it tries to build a culture in the building, unless the team goes about it like the Houston Texans are.

Legendary Texans defensive end J.J. Watt recently paid a visit to the franchise's facility and shared a photo from inside Houston's weight room. In the photo, the word "SWARM" is visible on the wall, and that is apparently supposed to be an acronym for Houston's slogan.

The problem is, the slogan "Special Work Ethic Relentless Mindset" doesn't match the "SWARM" acronym. If we're going word-for-word, it should be "SWERM" or "SWEARM" if we're accounting for the "and" that is apparently included in the acronym but not written on the wall.

Sorry, that's just not how acronyms work.

We can't just pick and choose what words we include and what words we omit. It is acceptable to exclude "and" in an acronym, but are we just going to pretend the word "ethic" doesn't exist?

Thankfully for the Texans, they're better at playing football than they are putting together acronyms. Houston is coming off a campaign in which it finished in first place in the AFC South and won a playoff game while also striking gold with 2023 No. 2 overall pick and quarterback, C.J. Stroud .

In 2024, the Texans are wisely going for it while Stroud is on his rookie deal and not occupying the huge percentage of the salary cap he inevitably will once he gets his second deal.

Houston has made several notable additions on both sides of the ball and has rightly become the trendy pick to make serious noise this coming season.

The Texans have one more preseason game on Saturday, Aug. 24, and will then turn their attention to the regular-season opener against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Sept. 8.
