MLB insider names top landing spots for Yankees superstar in free agency

New York Yankees star Juan Soto is going to be a very popular man as soon as final out of the World Series is recorded.

Soto is expected to sign a megadeal north of $500 million this offseason. Given his age and consistency in producing at an elite level, the generational talent is going to get a generational contract.

Which team Soto eventually signs with remains a mystery. The Yankees are still viewed as the most likely landing spot for the phenom.

But the New York Mets and San Francisco Giants were listed as the top landing spots for Soto as well, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com .

"Bryce Harper and Manny Machado were in similar situations after the 2018 season and each cashed in with free-agent deals worth at least $300 million. Soto’s price tag should be significantly higher, with most industry insiders projecting a deal of at least 10 years and $500 million," Feinsand wrote.

It seems the Yankees' biggest competition for Soto is the crosstown rival Mets. With Steve Cohen likely going hard at Soto, both New York teams will enter a bidding war.

The Giants are an interesting landing spot while the Philadelphia Phillies and Baltimore Orioles likely figure to be in the mix somehow.

Soto is in the middle of an MVP caliber season. He would be more in the conversation if it weren't for his teammate Aaron Judge enjoying a historic campaign.

In 124 games, Soto is slashing .299/.430/.607 with 36 home runs, 93 RBI, 107 runs scored and 106 walks.

The Yankees are going to have to open up the checkbook if they want to retain Soto because they'll have plenty of competition once the season ends.
