Bears playmaker in danger of being traded before season kicks off

It's just about time for the Chicago Bears to trim down the roster.

The 2024 National Football League season will kick off in just about two weeks and Chicago needs to make some tough decisions before then. The Bears mainly will cut players, but there could be some players who end up getting traded.

One player who could be on the move in the near future and is on the trade block is running back Khalil Herbert, according to NFL Trade Rumors' Logan Ulrich.

"Bears (running back) Khalil Herbert, (Houston Texans) RB Dameon Pierce, (Carolina Panthers) RB Miles Sanders, (Denver Broncos) RB Samaje Perine, (and) (Arizona Cardinals) RB Michael Carter or Emari Demercado," Ulrich said. "As a pure runner, Herbert would start for several other teams right this moment. He averages a shade under five yards per carry for his career. However, the Bears have made notable investments in D’Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson, and Herbert doesn’t stand out as a pass protector, receiver, or on special teams — areas where teams usually want their No. 3 running backs to contribute."

Herbert is entering his fourth season in the National Football League and has shown some serious flashes. He had 611 rushing yards last season in just 12 games and had 731 rushing yards in 2022 in 13 games played.

The Bears added Swift into the mix this offseason and so Herbert likely won't have a major role even if he sticks around with Chicago. Don't be surprised if the Bears end up making a move in the near future.
