Jacob Cowing has been a standout for the San Francisco 49ers in their preseason outings.

The rookie wide receiver caught all three of his targets for 39 yards and a touchdown in San Francisco's 24-24 tie with the Las Vegas Raiders in its preseason finale Friday night. Cowing also looked confident returning punts, bringing out three for 19 yards for an average of 6.3 yards per return.

This followed a standout performance in their previous game where Cowing caught four of his five targets for a team-leading 51 receiving yards and he had a 19-yard jet sweep on top of that where he got to show off his speed in full force, impressing his teammates and the coaching staff.

“Just continuing to play my game,” Cowing said after the game to NBC Sports Bay Area , when asked about his performance. “Being confident in my abilities each and every game, each and every practice I’m going into. Just being present in the moment, too. Not trying to think too far ahead.”

Cowing is referring to the big and final preseason deadline of note on Tuesday, Aug. 27 which is the day teams must make their final cuts to down to 53 players total players on the roster. However, Cowing does not have much to worry about after the way he has played so far this preseason.

Cowing also caught his first touchdown of the preseason in the game against the Raiders when Josh Dobbs threaded the needle and found him in the endzone. This performance in the preseason has been a bit of a surprise due to the Arizona product entering training camp with a hamstring injury.

Cowing was on the field for 29 offensive snaps and then saw time on special teams in the return game against the Raiders. The more reps he gets, the more preparation he has for the regular season, and things are trending up for him with the regular season right around the corner.
