Steelers suggested as landing spot for veteran WR on the roster bubble

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been trying to trade for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk in order to upgrade their situation at the position, but as we've seen, that is far from a certainty.

If the Steelers are unable to land Aiyuk, they need to explore other options for a room that is led by George Pickens but has several question marks behind him.

In our final 53-man roster prediction for Pittsburgh, we had Pickens, Van Jefferson, Calvin Austin, Roman Wilson, Scotty Miller and Dez Fitzpatrick making the cut. Quez Watkins is another possibility, although he's had a bad offseason.

With teams set to cut their rosters down to 53 by Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 4 p.m. ET, the Steelers will have some new options to consider, both on the waiver wire and in free agency.

One of those options could be Houston Texans wide receiver Robert Woods, who Bleacher Report's Alex Ballentine believes would be a good fit for the Steelers if Houston cuts him.

The Steelers and Commanders spring to mind. Both have been connected to Brandon Aiyuk this preseason. While Woods is no Aiyuk he would give both teams a reliable veteran presence that neither of the teams really have.

Woods would join George Pickens and Van Jefferson as the top options in Pittsburgh while he could help replace Jahan Dotson in Washington. The Commanders just traded the young receiver and need weapons for Jayden Daniels.

With the Texans' wide receivers room being absolutely loaded, there is a very good chance that Woods won't make the cut. If let go, he would be a free agent immediately and not subject to waivers because he is a vested veteran.

Woods is coming off a season in which he tallied 40 receptions for 426 yards and one touchdown in 14 games, serving as the No. 5 option in the passing attack when everyone was healthy in Houston.

Unfortunately, Woods isn't the same receiver he once was at the age of 32, so he wouldn't move the needle much. But he is still more of a sure thing than perhaps every other receiver outside of Pickens, so he'd be worth taking a flyer on.
