Veteran O-lineman among Philadelphia Eagles’ first roster cuts

The Philadelphia Eagles have made their first of what will be many roster cuts as teams work to trim their 90-man rosters down to 53 for the upcoming NFL season.

About 26 hours ahead of Tuesday’s 4 p.m. EST deadline, the Eagles made their first notable move, releasing offensive lineman Max Scharping .

Scharping, a former 2nd-round pick of the Houston Texans, has been a versatile interior lineman throughout his pro career. He worked mostly at left tackle with the Eagles during training camp, including some ugly moments in their preseason game against the New England Patriots .

According to Pro Football Focus , Scharping was better in the preseason finale against the Minnesota Vikings :

The Eagles still have plenty of work to do to get down to their initial 53-man roster. Their other move of note so far came last week with the release of veteran tight end C.J. Uzomah . No huge surprise there. Grant Calcaterra has been a mainstay behind starter Dallas Goedert throughout camp, and rookie E.J. Jenkins has been among the Eagles’ standout players in training camp. It’s worth noting, however, that Uzomah was released on the same day Goedert missed practice with an oblique injury .

Over the next 24 hours, hundreds of NFL players will see their dreams come to an end, and there will be at least a handful of surprises among the final cuts. Sporting News is tracking the NFL's final roster cuts as all 32 teams finalize the first iteration of their 53-man rosters.
