The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to cut their roster down to 53 players by Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 4 p.m. ET, but that will not be the end of things for general manager Omar Khan and Co.

Once every team's roster is cut down, teams will begin scouring the waiver wire for players who can help them. The free-agent market will also have plenty of new faces, giving teams yet another avenue to shore up holes.

So, which cut players will go to waivers and which will go to free agency? That depends on the amount of service time a player has in the NFL.

For players with at least four accrued seasons in the league, they go straight to free agency upon being cut and can sign with any team. Players with three or less accrued seasons in the NFL are subject to waivers.

Teams will have until Wednesday, Aug. 28, at noon ET to put in a claim for those players who go to waivers. Any players who clear waivers will go to free agency, where they can sign with any team. And, once the initial waiver period goes through on Wednesday, teams will put together their practice squads.

For the Steelers, they have at least a few positions they could address, including wide receiver and cornerback, so expect Pittsburgh to be active in the next few days.

Knowing that, here's a look at where the Steelers stand in the waiver order ahead of Wednesday. The current order is based on the 2024 NFL Draft order through Week 3 before it reverts to 2024 records and is updated weekly.
