Buffalo Bills make moves at wide receiver to start cut down day

The Buffalo Bills have been busy this morning as they whittle their roster down to 53. In conjunction with releasing veteran Kareem Jackson earlier, the Bills have cut wide receivers Tyrell Shavers and Justin Shorter .

Both players had been roster hopefuls throughout training camp and the preseason, but neither made a strong enough case to be kept on the initial roster. Shavers had shown well with some run blocking and special teams work in the preseason, and was the subject of some buzz during camp, but it apparently wasn’t enough.

The wide receiver position is one to watch for going forward for the Bills in terms of who, and how many they keep. Marquez Valdes-Scantling hasn’t played well, but is more of a flash player than he is a model of consistency. He looks to be in line for the wide receiver 5 spot, with an outside shot at KJ Hamler being kept in some capacity with his speed and return ability (also saw some emergency running back work in the preseason finale).
