When it was announced this past Wednesday by Sean Payton that Bo Nix was going to be the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos , it really was not a surprise to anyone. The question on everyone's mind, however, was what was going to happen with Zach Wilson and Jarrett Stidham?
As roster cuts begin to be finalized and the 53-man rosters announced, there is still some uncertainty regarding the rest of the quarterback depth chart. But a decision could be made soon based off of a series of interviews with the two quarterbacks.
When Zach Wilson was asked about the decision to start Bo Nix, he had a optimistic response:
"Yeah, I was excited for [Bo]. I don't think it was a surprise too much, obviously, right? I think he's had a great camp. I told him I am excited for him, for this opportunity. I really believe that they're putting him in a good situation," Wilson explained, "Bo has just continued to keep getting better, so I'm excited to see what he can do and I think he's ready for it".
As for Jarrett Stidham, his response to a similar question took a different form:
"Obviously, I was very disappointed. I know I'm a starting quarterback in this league. I have zero doubts about that. It just didn't shake out my way. I know what kind of player I am, the kind of person I am," Stidham expressed, "I'll be ready to go if need be. I have no doubts that I'm a starting-caliber quarterback".
Now, each response is completely reasonable. The NFL is extremely competitive, and at the end of the day, guys want to make money because it is a business. However, when it comes to team chemistry and making roster cuts at the end of the day, these responses might be the reason why one guy stays and another departs.
