Kalen DeBoer has noticed Jalen Milroe’s lack of highs and lows at Alabama

Kalen DeBoer appreciates Jalen Milroe for not getting too high or low under center for Alabama the past two years in Tuscaloosa – praising the Crimson Tide’s quarterback’s consistent attitude as one of the best qualities one can have.

“He’s been consistent,” DeBoer said of Milroe during his Monday press conference . “And that’s what I think one of the biggest qualities you can have is consistency. Obviously, you want to consistently be at the highest level that you possibly can. You want to walk on the field, and this is for any player, but I think this is something Jalen has done a better and better job of since we’ve gotten here, and it’s you know what you’re going to get when you get out there— whether it’s the attitude and the effort, the play on the field. There really haven’t been some crazy highs or crazy lows.”

DeBoer didn’t sound concerned with Milroe forming chemistry with new teammates Germie Bernard, Ryan Williams, Caleb Odom, Amari Jefferson, and Rico Scott in the receiving corps or new center Parker Brailsford.

“I think he’s just continuing to build, continuing to work with his guys,” DeBoer said. “Whether it’s the offensive line and the communication and making sure he’s on the same page with protections, run checks or whatever it might be. The receiving corps with the timing of routes. A lot of communication. I think he continued to grow and evolve as well.”

How long has Jalen Milroe been Alabama’s starting quarterback?

This year will be Milroe’s second full season manning the sport’s most important position for a school synonymous with winning championships. However, the Katy, Texas native got his first taste of high-stakes action in October 2022 taking over for an injured Bryce Young.

Milroe came in midway through the Crimson Tide’s matchup with Arkansas in Fayetteville and started against Texas A&M at home; helping Nick Saban’s second-to-last team as head coach avenge their loss to the Aggies in 2021.

Having won an SEC Championship and nearly punched a ticket to the 2024 College Football Playoff Championship Game, Milroe is a steadying force for an Alabama program that is undergoing once-in-a-generation changes with DeBoer in Saban’s stead as the Tide’s head coach.
