Former Patriots QB Bailey Zappe claimed by AFC West team

While the New England Patriots were trimming down their roster from 90 players to 53 before Tuesday's deadline, they moved on from 2022 fourth-round pick Bailey Zappe.

However, Zappe didn't have to wait long to find his next team, as the Kansas City Chiefs have claimed the quarterback.

Zappe, 25, spent two seasons in New England, appearing in 14 games and starting eight of them, and even replacing Mac Jones as the team's starter for a period of time. In those opportunities, he completed 63.2% of his passes for 2,053 yards, 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Heading into 2024, it was clear that the Patriots wanted to overhaul the room, as they sent Jones to Jacksonville for a sixth-round pick, signed Jacoby Brissett and drafted both Drake Maye and Joe Milton III.

New England opted to keep Milton as the third guy over Zappe as a project after taking him in the sixth round.

Now, Zappe shares a room with the best quarterback in the league (Patrick Mahomes) and a former second-overall pick (Carson Wentz). He won't have a great chance of seeing the field, but he has a much better chance of winning a ring.
