Liverpool’s failure to act on their previous interest in Fluminense midfielder Andre has allowed Wolves to swoop in and secure the Brazilian international in a deal worth £21 million ($27.7m).

This unexpected transfer marks a major coup for Gary O'Neil's side as they strengthen their squad amid a challenging start to the Premier League season.

Last summer, Liverpool were keen to bring Andre to Anfield, even making a £25 million ($33m) bid for the dynamic midfielder.

However, the deal fell through as Andre committed to staying at Fluminense to help his club in the Copa Libertadores. Despite his availability now, Liverpool chose not to revisit the deal, leaving the door open for Wolves.

Wolves seal the deal while Liverpool stay silent

Wolves, who have had a tough start to the season, losing their opening two Premier League matches, have acted quickly to bolster their midfield.

They agreed on an initial fee of £18.5 million ($24.4m), with an additional £2.5 million ($3.3m) in add-ons, to bring the 23-year-old to Molineux. Andre is expected to fly to England soon to complete his medical and finalize the transfer.

Fluminense president Mario Bittencourt confirmed Liverpool's previous interest, stating,

“We had an offer for Andre of €30m from Liverpool, and we said 'no' because we had agreed with the player that we wouldn't sell him because we wanted to win the Libertadores.”

Andre’s move to Wolves sees him join fellow Brazilians Joao Gomes and Matheus Cunha, adding depth and energy to a Wolves team eager to climb out of the relegation zone. With nearly 200 appearances for Fluminense and five caps for Brazil, Andre brings experience and tenacity to his new club.

Liverpool’s decision to not pursue Andre may come under scrutiny, especially if the Brazilian makes an immediate impact in the Premier League for Wolves.
